Speaker:
Pat Donnelly, Cla-Val Territory Manager, Northeast US
Main Program:
Pure Water Distribution Piping System Design Guidelines and Lessons Learned
Pat Donnelly, Cla-Val Automatic Control Valves, will present on the operation of control valves and the various applications they are used in throughout a typical water supply and building plumbing system. We will review sizing based on the design parameters, options, and good engineering practices. We will discuss electronic options for consideration in the building automation system.
Understanding how to size, specify, and install control valves is an important aspect of plumbing engineering. Not just when dealing with multiple pressure zones in high rise buildings, but also in areas where elevated pressures are entering buildings or when pressures may fluctuate during different times of day. Did you know there are different valves for continuous flows versus intermittent flows? Or, why do we have a bypass PRV in parallel with a larger PRV? What is the best practice pressure drop across a PRV, and whet is the maximum pressure ratio to get the best results? Should I use a pressure sustaining valve or restricting valve?
Be prepared to not only listen and learn, but to ask Pat any and all of these questions. Because, you can size all of your pumps and piping correctly, but if your control valves are misapplied, the whole system can come to a grinding halt. (I’ve seen them literally grinding and failing…)
